Will You Marry Me?

Many couples get engaged during the holidays between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. With only a few weeks to go in the “engagement season”, I thought I would share some proposal tips.

Proposing to a significant other seems simple.
You buy a ring and you give it to them, right!?
While this is generally accurate, there’s so much more you should consider before proposing!

Make Sure You’re on the Same Page

This might seem obvious, but before you start buying a ring and planning a surprise proposal, make sure you both want to get married! Take time to talk to your partner about the future of your relationship. The plan is to come away from the conversation with an idea of what your partner will say when you decide to propose!

Family

Depending on your partner’s connection with their family, you may need to reach out to your partner’s parent(s) to share your intentions! If your partner has ever hinted in any way that you need to ask a parent/family member for their hand in marriage, do it!

Buy the Ring and Keep it Safe

The engagement ring is so important. It’s a piece of jewelry your partner will be wearing every day! If you’re not sure what type of ring your partner would like, gather information then get some help! Start paying attention to the type of jewelry your partner wears each day. Then, work with a jeweler, close friend, or family member to figure out options based on your budget. When you’re ready to buy the ring, make sure you’re purchasing it from a trusted store!

Once you have the ring in your possession, protect it with your life! Hide the ring in a safe place that isn’t obvious. The sock/underwear drawer is not an adequate hiding place! You don’t want your partner to accidentally (or purposely) find it before you’re ready!

Hire a Pro

If you feel you’ll need assistance pulling off the best proposal ever, get some extra help! It doesn’t hurt to hire a Planner to assist with coordinating logistics and securing vendors! Find a Planner that knows how to make the moment memorable by taking care of everything while you focus on preparing for one of the most exciting days of your life!

Pop the Question

Whether you’re planning an elaborate surprise proposal or doing something a little more low-key, find the right moment and pop the question!

Take a deep breath, get on one knee (if that’s your style), and share the beautifully written speech you’ve probably rehearsed a billion times!

After you’ve asked for your partner's hand in marriage, wait. Let them have all the time they need to process, cry, or do backflips. Once they've collected themselves, it’s time to put on the ring. Your partner may give you a cue by holding out their hand, or they may take the ring and do it themselves! Either way, your job is done and you’re officially engaged to the love of your life!

I hope you loved this post as much as I love engagement season! Lately, my timeline has been flooded with pictures of beautiful engagement rings!

Congrats to all the newly engaged couples out there!

For those of you that are popping the question soon, I hope this list was helpful! If you decide you need help with your plans, you know who to call! :)
